You’re never too Young to Fight for what you Believe in.

Hello there Classy,

In celebration of Women’s History Month I attended a luncheon held by the Oasis Center for Women and Girls! I’m so thankful for my good girlfriend Brittney Geathers for inviting me! I was engaged, inspired and motivated by a great amount of amazing women.

While there I met two young leaders who are on the move!!! I was astonished listening to what both of these young ladies have accomplished. When I spoke with them

Vision Disablity Lobbyist Paloma Rambana, her sister and I at the Oasis Center Luncheon

The picture on the left is me with Paloma Rambana, a 10-year-old lobbyist that advocates for children with vision disabilities. Little Paloma long days at the Capitol and hard work has secured $1 million dollars in funding for the vision impaired children in the 6 to 13 age group. The 10-year-old from Tallahassee was born with Peter’s Anomaly, a rare condition that causes an opacity in the corneas, leaving her legally blind. While Paloma parents make sure she’s able to have the right devices she needs to see, other children with her condition may not be as fortunate. Paloma has fought to make sure they are provided the same vision resources. To learn more about Paloma’s fight for vision equality click here

Casey Epstein-Gross and I at the Oasis Women’s History Luncheon

On my right is Casey Epstein-Gross a 8th grader who isn’t afraid to say she’s a feminist and activist. Casey is breaking barriers by making sure that girls and those of the LGBTQQ community are not secluded by in school. She has worked with school administrators to promote a fair dress code — one that does not place limitations on certain clothing for girls, such as leggings, because they pose a “distraction”.Find out more about Casey’s fight here

Both of you girls rock and I’m so proud of the work you two have done! Keep fighting for what you believe in! While you may run into some obstacles don’t ever let anyone stop you for obtaining your goals!

Hmm.. That Dress Looks Familiar

Hello There Classy,

A few months ago I shadowed Action News Jax anchor Erica Bennett and meteorologist Erin Clanahan. In between breaks we would talk about makeup, working out and fashion. Somehow we started discussing fashion in media related jobs.

Erin ( the beautiful lady in the middle)  said there’s a dress that all meteorologist and on-air media professionals are obsessed with. After a quick search online I found that statement to be true, there is a dress that media professionals are obsessed with and its only $23 dollars!!!

metdress2

The Homeyee Women’s Stretch Tunic Pencil Sheath nicknamed ”  The Meterologist Dress ” can be found on Amazon. However, before purchasing clothes and shoes online I always read the reviews. If I’m spending my hard earned money on any product I want to know the good, the bad and even the ugly!! Surprisingly all of the reviews said this was the IT Dress! The style is universal, the fabric is clingy but not too tight and you can chose from an assortment of colors.

So of course I ordered the infamous Meteorologist Dress just to see if it’s all the hype…. Well my friends I LOVE IT. I typically wear a size 2 but the reviews said this dress runs pretty small so I ordered a size 4 and it fits perfectly. Very professional and stylist at the same time. The fabric has some weight to it and would work in your favor if you have a career that is under bright lights. Overall I give this dress an A++ .

Fashion: Danity Love Boutique

Hello There Classy,

So as you know I attend THE BEST historical black university and last month we celebrated homecoming week. My university is known for students being highly fashionable year round but everyone pulls out their best dress for Homecoming. Don’t get me wrong,  Homecoming not only brings out the most fashionable wear but it also brings in a lot of revenue for the university and black business vendors. During this time I thought it would be wonderful to show my support for a black business and luckily I was able to find a boutique owned by FAMU alumna, Lauren Yelder.

This is Lauren in one of her original Danity Love pieces

Danity Love Boutique is based in Atlanta but ships nationally. The boutiques inventory include dresses, accessories and swimwear. Her fashion items have been worn by Nikki Nicole, a host on RHOA( Yes, Real Housewives of Atlanta) Kandi “Koated Nights” and former RHOA Claudia Jordan.

I received two complimentary pieces from her store,  a Moroccan styled romper and a navy PhotoGrid_1447711510901skater dress. Both are two styles that I have saw frequently on Pinterest, you could only imagine my excitement when I saw them on their page. The boutiques Instagram display items that are in stock. Here are original photos from Danity Loves Boutique Instagram Account.

This dress is definitely a party starter!

How stylish is this cobalt blue and white skater dress? This item fit my waist perfectly but the straps were a little long on me so I tied the back together. Overall this is a beautiful dress to wear out on a date or night out on the town. It’s very flirty and versatile. In this photo I decided to color-block with a shocking pink.

The romper was my ultimate favorite piece. I’m usually a size 0-2 so it ran a little bit big on me. I paired it with a waist belt and a navy cami. The lightweight material was wonderful for Florida’s heat and it’s only $40 ! I think I would also like to pair this with some boots for a fall look!

  • Cami Top – Forever 21
  • Braided Belt – Marshalls
  • Sandals – Steve Madden

I would suggest handPhotoGrid_1447712157672-washing both items. I washed them on gentle cycle and the threads started falling apart. The blue dress has a white silky material and mesh at the bottom hand-washing will prevent it from unraveling. If it does come apart, you should be able to clean up the excess thread with scissors. Also the blue dress is a little bit see-through. I wore a mini-slip just to be cautious. I will definitely buy from this seller not only because I support Black Businesses but because the items arrived quickly, I told her my concerns on the items being big and she offered me tips on how to make them work for me and her customer service skills were excellent. So make sure you shop this celebrity favorite, Danity Love Boutique.

L- Hi Kay I’m great how are you?

K- I’m doing wonderful, thank you for this opportunity. I actually have some questions from some of our readers on Facebook. Monika out of Jacksonville asked how long have you been doing hair?

L- Well to be honest I’ve been doing hair since I was 12. I started when my grandmother ask me to press her hair.

K- That’s a while

L- I know I’ve been doing hair every since

K-  I’m sure with you doing hair for a long time that you are experienced in different hair textures. What categories do you specialize in?

L- Weaves are my speciality but I can do everything relaxers, cuts and color. I really enjoy doing sew ins and color the most.

K- I can tell with the fabulous hair color you have in your hair. Stephanie out of Jacksonville asked what methods do you use for heat protection?

L-  I always use a heat protector. It’s very important to use a heat protector with any style using heat if not you can burn your hair

K- What brand so you use for heat protectant?

L- I use the Influance heat protectant. It’s my favorite kind.

K- Shantelle out of Jacksonville asked ” If you could share one hair tip what would it be”?

L- Everytime you shampoo, use a deep condition and rinse with cold water

K- Why cold water?

L- Warm or hot water opens your pores. Cold water seals conditioner into the hair shaft.

K- Well beauties that’s all we have for today. Make sure you check out Linda Gillespie at Hairs 2 Beauty Hair Salon on 5730 Bowden Road in Jacksonville,FL .

Beauty Post: Skies the limit by Kiara Sky

Hello There Classy,

I hope your weekend was fantastic. I traveled to Jacksonville to visit family and friends. While I was there I stopped to my favorite nail salon for a fresh mani and pedi. A few post back  I took a photo of my nails and to my surprise I had a few comments from readers asking for the gel polish brand . Sadly, I had forgotten the name but I made it a mission to ask the nail tech this visit.  The name of this nail color is High Maintenance by Kiara Sky ( no wonder I like this brand the owner’s name is similar to mine) .

20150629_172238IMG_20150627_194144

This time I decided to go for a powder blue Skies is the Limit ,  topped with a matte finish. Kiara Sky’s shellac polish last me 3-4 weeks, the gel is breathable so it allows my nails to grow without being as damaging as acrylic and most importantly there is hardly any chips, which is surprising because I’m super clumsy and tend to mess up my nails a lot. I would rate this polish a 10.5 on a scale of 1-10. & the nail color matches my favorite pair of jeans!

07/01/2015 Celeb Inspired Outfit Of The Day #OOTD

Hello There Classy,

We’ve made it to July! What a wonderful month it’s starting out to be. The weather has calm down a bit in Tallahassee, classes are going well and I’m visiting my family at least three times this month alone. Today’s ensemble was inspired by the chic, Caitlyn Jenner. Caitlyn left Patricia Field’s Soho store Tuesday afternoon looking oh so fabulous in a structured black blazer, sparkly black and grey undershirt and a multicolored sequin mini. According to The Herald Sun , Caitlyn could have been styled by Patricia Soho who is also the stylist behind Sex and the City. Either way, she looks Glamorous .

6/30/15 Outfit Of the Day #OOTD

Hello There Classy,

I hope you had a terrific Tuesday. My style choice was inspired by a quote on Pinterest ” Some days you have to create your own sunshine.” due to the stormy weather in Tallahassee lately. Although the weather was in an ugly mood I was not, thanks to the perfect amaranth colored dress and the help of an umbrella, I was able to attend classes, run errands and visit a friend. I was even lucky enough to take a few photos of today’s ensemble shortly after the storm passed.
